Waternook on Ullswater, Lake District Wedding – over 80% of my weddings are now in the Lake District so I feel very qualified to call myself a Lakeland wedding photographer! The Lakes for me is the ultimate wedding destination and in my mind, photographers have no excuse for not getting the shots – even in the rain!
Chris & Emily’s intimate wedding at a gem of a private house, Waternook on Ullswater, was a ‘wet one’ but my goodness, the ‘shots were to be had’ as they say … The wedding couldn’t have been more Cumbrian, with not only the location of the house simply perfect – right at the foot of Ullswater – but also their church service was at the small chapel of St. Martin’s, Martindale, nestled high amongst the fells. So remote, there is no electricity – just natural light through the small windows and a few candles. (FYI: with the sky overcast, ambient light was a rare commodity and I was shooting at 10,000 ISO – that means it was challenging!) Incidentally, I have to mention that the rings were brought in by a hawk laid on as a surprise to the bride by her father …
For me, the light on the day was perfect. Yes, it was raining and/or overcast for much of the day but this makes the light soft and diffused which is just wonderful to capture those moments in a beautiful and artistic way. Of course it also helps, on these inclement wedding days, if you have a bride & groom not frightened to go out in the rain and many of these shots wouldn’t have happened (or turned out the way they have) without not only, Chris & Emily’s unwavering enthusiasm to just ‘get on with it’, but also to just totally embrace their day to help make it the perfect wedding day, not just for them but family and friends too.
For me, my selection of photographs of the day here, not only represent a chronological story of one of my all-time favourite wedding days ever but also they are images that represent everything that is good about having a Lakeland wedding.
Chris & Emily, both myself and Rho can’t thank you enough for allowing us to be such a big part of your day. Your day was faultless, as were you two along with your family and friends.
A special mention must also go to the caterers, namely Colin of Granny Dowbekin‘s of Pooley Bridge who myself and Rho got to know well on the day – absolute pleasure sir!
